The Amateur First Team blew their chances of taking the Division 2 title with a poor performance away at Warnbro. With three First Team regulars unable to play for personal reasons, Balla was always going to be up against it in this vital fixture.
Things got off to a dismal start when an unbelievable mix up in defence gifted Warnbro a goal after 3 minutes. The score remained at 1-0 to the home team, but to be honest they looked the only team likely to score for a long period.
With about 20 minutes left, Warnbro did double their score and the match looked gone.
Less than 5 minutes later, Warnbro literally threw Balla a lfeline when the ‘keeper – in a display worthy of any blooper video – forgot to let go of the ball when attempting to throw it out and it landed in the back of the net.
Unfortunately Balla were unable to capitalise on this generosity and in pushing forward allowed Warnbro to score again. 3-1 and goodbye to the league winners title.
The Reserves also lost, 1-0, but a good effort was put in by the team with two Masters players and two others from the 18s. The solitary goal was a dubious effort, possibly involving a handball from the well experienced Warnbro striker.
Yet again a must win match this weekend to finish the season off. A Home win against 6th placed Cracovia is essential to ensure we finish runners-up and gain promotion.
