Round Two

Ballajura 1– 3 Canning International

Ballajura AFC succumbed to their second defeat of the season 3-1 to Canning International. Steve Mammoliti returned to the starting lineup as did Cody Bolton. Canning started off much brighter and were rewarded with their efforts halfway through the first half when a free kick looped into the Ballajura box and over the oncoming keeper, in which the ball bounced off a defenders legs and into the net. Things got worse for Ballajura when the ball was stolen by Canning and the striker managed to get a slight touch past the rushing keeper to make the score 2-0.

The second half saw a bigger improvement from Ballajura and substitute Damien Fouracre scored a well worked team move to put Canning under pressure and give the Reds a chance to bring scores level. Unfortunately, Zaheed Shariff was sent off for a second bookable offence and this left Ballajura vulnerable at the back. The Reds pushed forward but to no avail and towards the end, the final blow was dealt when Canning hit Ballajura on the counter. The keeper made a good save one on one but it unluckily fell behind him and an open net was there for the striker.

Ballajura Line-up: K. Hutchinson, A. Tharby, N. Martin, Z. Shariff , S. Mammoliti, M. Etheridge (D. Fouracre 55'), C. Rogers, A. Vincent ,C. Bolton (M. Hoy 65'), G. Brady(B. Vincent 80') ,G. Davidson

Ballajura Reserves 1-5 Canning International Reserves

Ballajura Reserves second game of the season became a disaster after a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Canning Reserves. A through ball managed to find its way past the Ballajura defence to the oncoming striker who produced a superb finish from a tight angle. Canning made it 2-0 when the striker managed to dink the ball past the keeper after being played through. Scores were 3-0 not long after when a corner ball resulted in confusion in the box and the ball fell to the Canning attacker who finished with a powerful effort. Ballajura brought themselves back into the game after Leo Perrotta created space for himself and hit a stunning effort into the top corner from outside the box.

The second half though was more of the same story as Ballajura grew frustrated, especially when a Canning player who was blatantly offisde, was given a one on one chance with the keeper and he finished with ease. A fifth and final goal was the icing on the cake for Canning and a deserved win for them.
